You’re Not the Boss of Your Body

I have a long history of disordered eating.

I’ve tried all the things to change the way my body looked. Starting as far back as age 14.

I rejected the body positivity messaging that emerged in the last decade until I realized my judgment had a message for me.

It threatened my belief that I wasn’t acceptable unless I was in a ____ sized body.

And I was FIRMLY committed to this idea.

After all, I had invested years and tons of money and time and energy supporting this belief.

The road to where I am now was long and winding. It took years, lots of hard lessons, and lots of setbacks.

But like cancer, and getting sober, and parenting, I’m grateful for the experience.

Seriously.

It has taught me so much.

It has landed me in this moment – where I feel more at home in my body and in love with myself than I ever have.

Regardless of my pants size.

I’ve always learned a lot from reading, reflecting/journaling, and talking things out.

Two books that have helped me along the way are:

Women, Food and God by Geneen Roth and

The Body is Not An Apology by Sonya Renee Taylor

I wanted to share those resources with you in case you are on this journey, too.

The mind and body are connected. The body is intelligent. It has its own soul.

It is not something you can control, manage or manipulate and expect it to obey perfectly and for all time.

Stress and habits and the results of those show up in the body. Just like cancers and adrenal fatigue and high blood pressure and…. so on.

Sometimes, as cheesy as it sounds, love is the answer.

And peace is the way.

You might be surprised how your body changes as your heart and mind soften.

And even if it never *looks* different, you might be so content it doesn’t really matter anymore.

That’s been my experience.

So… an invitation and a question.

  1. If you want to be on the journey to self-acceptance rather than body management, we should talk. You might want to do some 1:1 work with me or consider joining the Vibrant Body + Wise Mind Program. (We’re accepting new members in January.)
  2. And if you’re on this journey and you’ve found some peace, please share what’s helped you. It might be just what someone else needs to hear.

Sending love.
